Background: A pure-blood wizard, Neville Longbottom's parents were tortured to the point of insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange and other Death Eaters (followers of Voldemort), when he was still a baby. They'd been a part of the first Order of Phoenix and aurors for the Ministry of Magic. Because his parents were placed in St. Mungo's and unable to raise him, he was raised instead by his grandmother, Augusta Longbottom. At age 11, Neville went to Hogwarts where he was sorted into the Gryffindor house. He was picked on incessantly by members of Slytherin, like Draco Malfoy, and considered to be something of a clumsy idiot. His grandmother was hard on him because of this, telling him that he wasn't good enough and not a brave and accomplished as his parents. However, in later years he came more into his own. Firstly, he discovered a love for herbology, which he was also very good at. On top of that he joined Dumbledore's Army in his 5th year, a group formed by Harry, Ron, and Hermione to help train students to defend themselves because of Voldemort's return. He also assisted Harry, Ron, and Hermione on several occasions. He went with them at the Battle of The Department of Mysteries, where he finally faced Bellatrix Lestrange. He also fought in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower and the Battle of Hogwarts. During his final year, because Harry, Ron, and Hermione were in hiding and searching for Horcruxes, he helped lead DA to fight against the Death Eater professors that were running the school. During the Battle of Hogwarts, he not only stood up to Voldemort himself, he also killed Nagini-- the last Horcrux, with the sword of Gryffindor.
